Hi everyone- Megan blogging.
Last night we arrived in Borneo. The flight to Singapore was really good. We watched heaps of movies over the 7 hours. We kept being given heaps of food- and got pretty stuffed. Singapore airport was really cool, very clean and high tech. Even the bathrooms were amazing. We took a train around Singapore, then boarded for Borneo. That flight didn’t have any movies, and was quite short. There was quite a bit of turbulance, and the food was tuna, which some people didn’t like.

We arrived in Borneo, and were all pretty tired, but excited. The weather wasn’t boiling hot, but was very humid. And the smell of sewerage, you wouldn’t believe it. We got picked up at the airport, and were taken to our backpackers hotel. The rooms were quite good, and were thankfully air conditioned. We then went out to a late dinner. It was lucky that Jacquelyn and
Georgia had changed some money before the trip- because the money changers were closed, so the rest of us just had Australian money. We weren’t very adventrous with our meals, a lot of butter chicken and noodles- only Gayertree knew most of the meals so she chose something different. One thing most of us found out was that Borneo chilli was very hot.

In the morning, with Jacquelyn as leader, we headed off to the waterfront and followed the esplanade and found a restaurant for breakfast. Most of us had laksa, low of the chilli, and most of us had juices. After that we went and changed some money, at a pretty good rate, then went to the old court house to confirm out flights to Miri. As we were sitting of the steps, out of nowhere it started pouring down rain. And after that cleared, we walked to the market- very different to the ones in Australia. You should be able to see some photos of that later. A lot of us were quite disgusted at all of the fish- the smell was quite intense, and the fish and meat were just lying on trays out in the open, some lying in blood. Yuck. Next we saw some Borneo fruit, and some of us bought juices and cakes. Later we browsed through the jewelery and lots of tourist souvernirs. We then headed back through China town, which was very colourful. We’re now back at the hotel, about to head back to the waterfront for dinner on the esplanades.
